NAMIBIA is referred by the ancient San people as ‘the land God made in anger’, Namibia’s essence lies in the vastness of her landscape, along with the diversity of her fauna and flora. To this day Namibia encompasses magnificent and unspoilt wilderness areas – from the dunes of the Namib to the rugged terrain of Damaraland where the desert-adapted elephant and rhino have found a refuge.
To blend the classical highlights of this largely arid country with its hidden
and remote hinterland requires flexibility and a sense of adventure.
Much of this country is still untrammeled by tourists and thus allows you to discover and explore the most coveted treasures. The following is just a sample
of things to do in Namibia. For those short on time enjoy the “quick” visits shown. To truly appreciate its wonder ask us about our longer itineraries which spend more time in each of the areas mentioned; Sossusvlei, Damaraland, Skeleton Coast and Etosha National Park.
BEST OF NAMIBIA (7 Days)
DAY 1 Arrive in Swakopmund where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Free time to explore this quaint coastal town.
DAY 2 Full day in Swakopmund boasting many activities and tours.
DAY 3 Depart Swakopmund aboard a light aircraft to Sossusvlei. Explore the spectacular desert dunes and marvel at the world’s oldest living desert.
DAY 4 A full day to enjoy the desert activities.
DAY 5 Depart for Windhoek by light aircraft where you will connect to your flight for Etosha National Park. Etosha is home to a large population of desert-adapted lion and elephant, and the endearing Damara dik-dik. Called the ‘Place of Dry Water’, it is austerely beautiful and the unusual sight of many species of mammals and sometimes predators, drinking side-by-side at the waterhole makes for remarkable photo opportunities.
DAY 6 Full day of game viewing activities.
DAY 7 Transfer to the airport for your next leg.
SKELETON COAST FLY-SAFARI (4 Days)
DAY 1 Depart Windhoek by light aircraft. The Kuiseb canyon and adjoining red dunes are a spectacular view from the air, as is the view of the famous Eduard Bohlen shipwreck at Conception Bay. Continue along the coast past the seal colony at Cape Cross. Overnight in the Huab Valley within walking distance of ancient rock engravings.
DAY 2 Today explore the Huab River formations by landrover and fly along the coast to Terrace Bay in the Skeleton Coast Park. Here you access the ‘roaring dunes’ by landrover, explore the beach with its profusion of multi-colored stones. Fly north to the Huarusib Valley.
DAY 3 A scenic drive leads to a settlement of the nomadic Himba people, and perhaps a sighting of the desert-dwelling elephant which frequent this valley. Continue north to the perennial Kunene River and drive through the mountains and dunes of the Hartmann Valley.
DAY 4 Early morning boat trip on the Kunene River, observing birds varying from the aquatic species to endemic desert varieties and those inhabiting dense riverine vegetation. This afternoon fly back to Windhoek.
